Explain the differences and connections between kaupapa Māori and mātauranga Māori. (170 words)

To my understanding the simplist way to describe the difference between kaupapa Māori and mātauranga Māori is that mātauranga māori is a modern name given to the body of knowledge passed on to modern māori people from their ancestors, whereas kaupapa māori is the way in which this knowledge is applied to their practices and principals. This is also how the two ideas connect as without the body of knowledge (mātauranga Māori) there would be nothing to educate the ideas behind kaupapa Māori. "The phrase mātauranga Māori also does not suggest any actions in the way that kaupapa Māori suggests 'plan of action'." (Quote from cited source 1).
This illustration depicts "the Māori legend of the creation of the first earthly woman, Hineahuone. She was formed from clay by the creator god Tāne, who then breathed life into her nostrils" (quote from cited source 2). This legend would be mātauranga Māori as a legend passed down from ancestors but this moment of the legend is what inspired the tradition of the hongi which would be a part of kaupapa Māori.
